VITAMIN D
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER

Vitamin D is not technically a vitamin.
It is a prohormone. Vitamins are nutrients that our body cannot create and we must consume them in our diet. Our skin can create the prohormone Vitamin D with the UV light from sun exposure (or a quality tanning lamp).

UVB rays from the sun are necessary to create Vitamin D.
Unless you are taking a supplement, you are likely Vitamin D deficient. Most glass and sunscreen block UVB rays and prevent you from creating Vitamin D. People with darker skin need more exposure time to create adequate levels of D. Our location (north of 40 deg latitude), time of year, and time of day all dictate how much UVB rays will reach our skin. *During the winter, in Wyoming, we cannot generate any Vitamin D from sun exposure.

Vitamin D is essential for a strong robust immune system.
The scientific evidence shows that higher Vitamin D blood levels are associated with lower rates of SARS-CoV-2. Inadequate Vitamin D is by far the most easily and quickly modifiable risk factor with abundant evidence to support a large effect against covid19. Some might say we have cold and flu season, and some might say we have Vitamin D deficiency season.

Unless you are supplementing Vitamin D, you are likely deficient, especially in the winter in Wyoming.
It has been shown that 3875 IU daily is required for 97.5% of people to reach 50nmol/L of Vitamin D, the minimum to not be considered deficient. *This is far below the US RDA national guidelines.

Why isn’t Vitamin D more talked about by leading experts?
Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep, Stress and Sunlight - All things in our life that we can control, are cheap and will make massive impacts on our overall health. The fact that to this day, we still haven’t had a leading doctor or expert come out and promote any of these important factors should be concerning.

*This is not medical advice. Please consult your doctor before taking action. If your doctor does not consider Vitamin D an essential aspect of your overall health and that you should consider its implications, do some research and ask why.
